December 1st.

Is finally upon us, which means it’s only 24 days until CHRISTMAS!
I’m super excited, I have just eaten my very first chocolate from the advent calendar and am about to start my Christmas card list! We’re going to have another year with just the two of us (well, 5 if you count the cats. Which of course, we do…), we’ll spend it eating, drinking, watching old Christmas films and playing boardgames.
We’ll do our obligatory family visits on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, which will allow us to spend the day lounging about in our jammies!

There’s still so much to do between now and then, decorating the house, writing out cards, going on a food & booze run and of course buying presents!
This year me and J are cutting back on what we spend on each other, we’ve had a busy and expensive year, so it makes sense just get each other something small (and within budget!). To be honest, the main focus for us is FOOD, we both LOVE a Christmas dinner (who doesn’t?!) and this year we will be going all out with all the meat, veg and pigs and blankets that you can eat! I better do a Joey from Friends and invest (or borrow) a pair of maternity leggings so that I am at my most comfortable when stuffing my face!

I’m hoping to try and persuade J to pop the Christmas tree up in the next few days. I need to invest in some more decorating also, however I have some fantastic crocheted Christmas lights coming my way, handmade by my friend Heather! I cannot wait for the house to feel Christmasy, I might even pop a playlist on the Sonos…

Anyway, I hope everyone is getting into the spirit of things and takes full advantage of all the Christmas themed fun wherever you are and if you’re not a fan, that’s cool, but we can’t be friends. 😜

Round Up.

Hey you guys! It’s been a while… I seem to have been bitten by the blogging bug and thought that would start off with a little round up post.
In the past few months there have been some ups and some downs, but thankfully everything is good at the moment!

The biggest thing that has happened is that we lost our little Mossy Moo, our youngest cat was tragically hit by a car and died on the 8th of May. It has been a horrible time, it hit us really bad and our oldest cat Senna stopped eating and was trying to find Moss (that was heartbreaking to watch). Sen has thankfully gotten better and both myself and Jaimie have gotten through the worst of it, but still think about him and miss him everyday.

On a lighter note, I’m currently being up skilled at work and will be duel skilled by July! There has and is still a lot to take in, but it’s been nice to be off the phones!

There’s a lot of stuff coming up, such as a gig, stag do, hen do and 3 more weddings and I’m trying to get back on the healthy wagon (although I doubt the tub of Ben & Jerry’s that was consumed over 2 days will help!).

Finally, it feels like summer! With the better weather it means that more time will be spent outside and I intend to start walking home from work (let’s see how long that lasts!).

(I’m going to keep this up, I’m going to kee….).

Good Friday.

The Easter weekend is upon us, which for some means a glorious 4 days off work and time to spend with your nearest and dearest, today I spent it with J.
He had planned a mini pub crawl, so mini that it only consisted of 4 pubs, the Barony, The Cumberland Bar, The Wally Dug & Kay’s. Each pub was different and had its quirks (which I love), but my favourite was Kay’s… I think what really sold it was my new found friend (woof!). I like pubs for the look and the atmosphere, J however goes on the ales and whisky (Kay’s was his favourite too). We drank in each pub, but had lunch in The Cumberland Bar, I went for the veggie haggis burger with added cheese and J went for the fish and chips, both absolutely delicious AND very filling! The only issue with that pub, is that my bottle of cider was nearly Β£5!!! I think we may try and pop into a few more pubs whilst we’re off (there’s a new one just opened up in Portobello).

Below are some pictures taken from today, obvs.

Review: Chop Chop.

A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I would like to Review Chop Chop and the obvious answer was yes…

Now, the first time I had heard of Chop Chop was on Gordon Ramseys – The F Word and for YEARS I kept saying I needed to go, but sadly never made the trip.

So, on Wednesday myself and Jaimie made our way to Haymarket for dinner. We were super excited and could not wait to get there, we had already decided what we were going to order days before…!
When we arrived, we were greeted and seated by the lovely waiting staff and were given enough time to peruse the menu, which was a refreshing change from some other establishments.

image

Our order was taken and we chose, Northern Chicken, Chilli and Beef Dumplings (boiled), Chicken Dumplings (fried), Lamb and Diced Potato, with two bowls of egg fried rice.
My favourites were the Northern Chicken and the Dumplings as I’m not a huge lamb fan, but we loved every mouthful! All plates were empty and tummies were full.
The food was hot, fresh and arrived quickly.

It was quite a challenge for my OH to use the chopsticks, but he got the hang of it by the end of the evening and it was hilarious to watch!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful, the place was jam packed by the time we left and to see that on a Wednesday evening was impressive!
When a restaurant is busy during the week, you know it’s got to be good!

I cannot recommend Chop Chop enough and we are already planning our next trip!

PEOPLE OF EDINBURGH, GO!

Chop Chop is situated on Morrison Street (Haymarket).

P.S. Some selected Aldi stores are now stocking Chop Chops tasty dumplings!

*Disclaimer – I was given a meal for two to review the restaurant. All views are my own.Β Β

Goodbye 2012.

And good riddance!

Well not really, my year has been like everybody else’s, it’s had it’s up and down’s LIKE EVERY YEAR and 2013 will be EXACTLY the same. I will go on holiday, have nights in and out with friends and family, work 5 days a week, keep counting the days until the weekend and spend money on things that I do not need. The only exception being that me and Jaimie mightΒ have our own place this time next year, that would be nice; no that would be awesome. One step at a time… However on the 5th of Jan we are off to the bank to discuss mortgages and other things that grown up’s talk about when wanting to ‘invest in property’ (ooooh get me!).

Tonight I am off to Edinburgh’s legendary street party, in all my 26 years I have never been. I am not one for big crowds of drunken arseholes, but this year is different as my cousin and his gf have a spare two tickets for myself and Jaimie. I would rather be at a house party or even my own house(!), as I have gotten older I have come to the realisation that I do not care for New Years, it’s boring and it’s just another year… Big whoop… Maybe I have turned into a New Year Scrooge!

I am not going to get drunk as I would like to enjoy go for a nice walk or cycle tomorrow morning (HOW OLD AM I?!), but I do hope that we enjoy ourselves and on the plus side, the buses are free tonight so I won’t be paying a penny to get home.

Anyway’s, I hope everyone has a fab time whatever they decide to do tonight and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

What I Wore.

Today me and Jaimie went for a walk from Portobello to Musselburgh and this is what I wore.

Leggings, oversized army shirt, creepers, jacket, bobble beanie and bag.

Twas a lovely day for a walk, not too chilly and only a smattering of rain. I managed to pick up my winter cider from Lidl, which made me super happy!

I am in the process of lightening my hair, but we shall find out tomorrow if it has worked. I have only stripped it today, tomorrow is D day!

Anyway here are some pictures!

Bonfire Night.

Last night me and my buds held our annual bonfire night, which is held down Portobello beach. The beach is normally teaming with big groups of people and an abundance of bonfires, but this year was different, this year was quiet. I think that most people were off having Halloween parties rather than setting off fireworks.

It was the perfect night for it, crisp and clear making it great for both the bonfire and the fireworks. We also had sparklers, you have to have sparklers, it’s not the same without them(!). We started off by building the fire and then the guys set off the fireworks, we have quite a few which kept us on the beach for about 6 hours! Thankfully there were fold out chairs and rugs to sit on and peopled made/brought food with them, we even had hot veggie soup with garlic bread, which was much needed! Not forgetting the GIANT marshmallows!
It was a thoroughly enjoyable night with my nearest and dearest and can’t wait to do it again next year!

Round Up.

Herrow chaps and chapettes!

Not much has been happening since I last checked in with you, still working away and spending money on clothes and shoes.

I turned the ripe old age of 26, as you get older you realise how much birthdays are not a bit deal. BUT I did however have an awesome birthday night with my best buds! The theme was Man v Food, everybody was invited to make big/lots of food and bring drinks. I went for the giant cheeseburger and with Jaimie’s help it was AMAZING.
It was a very drunken night (even though I was horrifically ill, I had viral infection), it wss filled with party games, face paints and people popped on all the trinkets inside their party bags. I loved it and I love my friends.

I also happened to go on a long weekend away to the beautiful city of Budapest. I went with 4 of my buddies and we spent 4 days and 3 nights exploring, taking in the sights and sounds with a pub crawl thrown in for good measure. Budapest is stunning and the weather was quite good, surprisingly warm in October! There is so much history and it was great to learn about it.
I will definitely be going back and this time taking Jaimie as he is DESPERATE to go.

Other things in Kathryn news is that I have a new phone which I love, hiya Galaxy SIII! Burst my lip and hurt my teeth on a drunken night out. Went to the RBS Museum Lates with Lisa and her work friends, again another drunken night out. Took mum to Chamber Street Museum to see the Catherine The Great exhibition, which is a must (it has since finished). Dinner and a meeting with Jaimie’s family for his dad’s 60. Spent more money on clothes and shoes. Treated mum, dad and Jaimie to lunch. Gotten over a viral infection AND cut my fringe in… again.
