Witness The Fitness.

HA! Don’t be fooled by the title, I am in no way fit, but I am getting there.

If you have read my blog before you would have read a ‘few’ posts, mainly in January about me joining the gym or starting an exercise regime/healthy eating which I intended to stick to… Now, I did mange to stick to them for a while (month or so) and then I would go back to being lazy and stuffing my face (which I still enjoy doing, I’m only human…), but this time I’ve managed to stick to it.

In January (what a surprise!) I joined Slimming World and during my time with them I managed to lose about a stone (I went up and down), but sadly I’ve had to give it up due to my financial situation (less money, mo’ problems). I won’t say that I made every meal ‘syn free’, BUT I made quite a few and every meal was tasty, except for one, I decided to ‘go off piste’ and create my own which was a disaster, but we won’t talk about that… Thankfully even though I am no longer attending any of the weigh ins or classes (only stayed for one, the unsocial bitch that I am) I can still get all in the SW info I need on the World Wide Web. One of the best websites/blogs for recipes and also a good laugh is Two Chubby Cubs, I urge you to go and read their blog even if you aren’t following the SW lifestyle, also a good place to get recipes and info on ‘syns’ is on Pinterest and Facebook (there are tons of pages that you can follow).

Along with the SW lifestyle I’ve also been exercising a TON and can actually see the change in my body, which is such a confidence boost(!) and I’ve also got A LOT more energy that I didn’t previously have. I have been using a range of apps to help me keep fit and on track and I have a heap of them on my phone, I like to switch things up as I get bored easily and my favorite apps are: 8fit – pre fixed workouts which you can tailor the exercises to suit your level of fitness, Asana Rebel – this app offers you pre fixed yoga workouts, Bodyweight – this has a range of workouts and exercises, Fitplan – this has prefixed workouts , Gymster Pro – lets you choose the areas you would like to work on whilst utilising the equipment that you have around you, Sworkit – you chose the length of time you want to work out and also the type of workout you want & Track Yoga – does what it says on the tin, yoga sessions.

I love these apps and I love the variety of each one, now I’m not going to sit here and say I have paid or pay for any of these apps with the exception of Gymster Pro, they aren’t cheap and I cannot afford to be shelling out over £100 per year to have them and ALL of their workouts, but I find that using the free workouts to be just as effective as having access to all of them. That is not say don’t purchase/subscribe to them, if I could afford it I would as you always get more features and content when you do, but right now I’m perfectly happy with using the free workouts and exercise sessions. We’re lucky enough to have enough rooms in our house that I’ve now dedicated the ‘dressing room’ to my workouts and meditation (which I’m also doing, it’s great for your metal health) and I have ‘some’ home gym equipment, I have a workout/yoga mat, bench press, dumbells, kettlebell, resistance bands and my newly acquired gym ball/balance ball (whatever you want to call it). My intention is to re-floor and convert our attic into a gym/music room (I’ve got a drum kit which still resides at my parents 4 years after I moved out…) , the ‘dressing room’ is a good size, but we have 2 large wardrobes and a dressing table in there and I’m now struggling to find space to put my equipment #FirstWorldProblems.

(Excuse the shonky editing…)

This time around I haven’t set myself any goals in the way of ‘I want to lose 10lbs in 2 months’ kinda thing, I’m just exercising eating ‘syn free’ meals all whilst allowing myself a takeaway and that jar of Nutella when I’m in dire need of some hazelnut/chocolate goodness. I’m not going to lie and say that I wouldn’t like to drop a couple of dress sizes and be nice and toned by the time I get married, but as that will probably not happen for a couple of years I have plenty time drop the lbs and I’m not putting any added pressure on myself (because why would you want to do that to yourself, right?!).

Anyway I’m going to give my new exercise ball a go, cheerio! 💪

Nailz For Dayz.

If you follow my Instagram (@LadyKaKa86 🖑) and on here you will see that I am a lover of fake nails/nail art and recently I’ve taken to wearing fake nails ALL THE DAMN TIME, some I’ve purchased from eBay which I paint and decorate and others have been purchased from no other than Primark. I have to say I’m really impressed with the Primark nails as they only cost between £1-£2 at that price you would think they would be flimsy and/or would not last long, however I’ve been known to wear a set for up to two weeks (!).

Now I know those you who are not into the fake nail look may class them as tacky and unpractical and you would be right, but I LOVE them and no amount of ‘how can you type with those’, ‘they are so long’, ‘I don’t like them’ will ever stop me wearing them.

I used to be into the acrylic and gels nails, but I found them to be a pain and it was a long arduous process to remove them and now a with a quick dip in nail polish remover my ‘stick on nails’ are off. I always try to have break from wearing them, whether it be for a few days or a week, during that time I make sure I get my natural nails in peak condition by buffing, applying cuticle oil and nail hardener (only for me to ruin them again I hear you cry!). I’ve seen the damage that gel and acrylic nails can do and I actually like my natural nails enough not to put them through that.

So below are some pictures of the aforementioned eBay and Primark nails and If you’re looking to wear them for one night or one week you should definitely invest in a set of fake nails, they are a hell of a lot cheaper than acrylic and gels!

eBay

I’m currently sporting the below eBay nails (which showcases a lovely fingerprint smudge).

One Non Blonde.

Here we are again… I was bored of the brown hair and decided I needed a change, I originally wanted to go silver/grey, however at present I am blonde. I’m slowly getting used to it as at first I didn’t like it and wanted to get rid of it as soon as I could, but then I thought ‘bugger it!’. After all the hair lighteners, toners and silver shampoos I’ve managed to get my hair to a colour that I actually like, my only regret is lightening my eyebrows too much… For someone who has naturally light/mousey brown hair, I have the blackest of eyebrows. I left the lightener on faaaar too long and now every time I take my make up off or come out of the shower I look as though I don’t have any eyebrows, which I highly startling to the cats and J…

This time I’ve managed to go blonde on the cheap, hair lighteners for Poundland, Jerome Russell: Silver Toner and Silver Shampoo & Conditioner from Semi-Chem have all worked a treat! I have to say that I’m most impressed with the hair lighteners and and shampoo and conditioner as these all called £1 each!

Previously when going blonde I have used a hair stripper and then bleached my hair a couple of times before finding the blonde colour I want and then popped that on. All of this left my hair noticeably damaged, it felt horrific too, but now my hair feels soft and there has hardly been any breakage, yipee!

Here is what I used:

102126

£1 each from Poundland

8994297872414

£4.99 each from Semi-Chem

16-04-27-10-51-04-712_deco

£1 each from Semi-Chem

As you can see, I didn’t break the bank to go blonde! The only thing I will say is that with the Mellor&Russell: Permanent Hair Lightener is that the bottles are small, so depending on the length of your hair you may need to pick up a few boxes, bit for £1 a box you can’t go wrong!

I’ve gone from brown to blonde in the space of a couple of days!

If you fancy a change, go for it!

Review: Liz Earle – Cleanse & Polish

I’ve always been a fan of Liz Earle products, it all started with my mums 90’s QVC obsession, she bought one LE face wash and that was me hooked!

The Cleanse & Polish, Hot Cloth Cleanser is a favorite of mine. All Liz Earle products are made with natural ingredients and included in the Cleanse & Polish are: cocoa butter, rosemary, chamomile, hops and eucalyptus. All of these ingredients are to help soften, moisturise, tone and purify.

This is super easy and quick to do, apply all over face and neck, take the muslin cloth, rinse in hot water, use the cloth to wipe the cream off and finally give your face a splash with cold water. Afterwards your skin looks healthy and soft, honestly it’s amazing how good your skin looks and feels afterwards.

So ladies and gents, if you’re looking for some seriously good looking skin, give this a go, you won’t be disappointed!

Wallace Monument.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely Laura from O’Leary PR asking if I would be interested in visiting The National Wallace Monument in Stirling, I of course said yes (Me and the OH had been meaning to visit for years!). The last time I was there was when I was 11 years old and my cousin Ross was visiting from Australia (J had never been!).

The day finally came (last Saturday) and we made our way through to Stirling, the drive there wasn’t too bad and when we arrived there was a chill in the air but it was sunny, which for me is a perfect winters day.

As I mentioned previously, the last time I visited The National Wallace Monument I was 11 years old and when we visited all those years ago you were able to park right outside The Monument on top of the hill, however nowadays they have a wonderful gift shop, cafe and car park.  You have two options on how you get up the The Wallace Monument, you can either head up there by foot or take the shuttle bus that they provide, me and J decided to walk up (this was to be my exercise for the week!).

As you make your way up there are a few viewing areas where you can go to take some pictures and take in the beautiful view. When we made it to the top we were again greeted with stunning views and of course the beautiful landmark that is The National Wallace Monument.

image

Once we had taken 30 odd pictures we finally made our way inside and were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff who provided me with our tickets and a voucher for 2 complimentary hot drinks at The Legends Coffee House with compliments from Stirling Tourism Board, we then we started our journey up the 246(!) steps…

image

There are 3 different rooms over 3 floors and then you have the crown (the very top of the monument). The first room you enter is the The Hall of Arms, in this room you will be able to find out William Wallace’s early life and also learn about the Battle at Stirling Bridge. In this room you will also see some armour (which is extremely heavy!) and the beautiful stained glass windows, which were flooded with sunlight.

On the next floor you come to the Hall of Heros, this room features 15 marble busts and one bronze bust, you may not always recognise the bust but you will most likely recognise their names (Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns & James Watt to name a few!). However the best part of this room is Wallace’s sword, which stands at 5ft 4ins and weighs 6.5lbs (to be exact!), it is housed in a glass case.

image

image

The next room is The Royal Chamber and in the room you will find information on this Victorian building. There is also a jigsaw and ‘face in the hole, thingy’ (I clearly have no idea what they are called…) which is fun!

And finally, the stairs lead you to The Crown which is a fantastic viewing platform at the top of The National Wallace Monument. The 360 degree view is absolutely stunning, we must have spent a good 20 minutes up there taking in the sights!

We then descended the 246 stairs and the hill (complete with jelly legs!) to the Legends Coffee House to relax and have a coffee and hot chocolate which was much needed on that chilly day!

To anyone who has never been, go! Get a bit of history in you and enjoy the beautiful views that Stirling has to offer. Both myself and the OH had a fantastic afternoon and will definitely be returning!

December 1st.

Is finally upon us, which means it’s only 24 days until CHRISTMAS!
I’m super excited, I have just eaten my very first chocolate from the advent calendar and am about to start my Christmas card list! We’re going to have another year with just the two of us (well, 5 if you count the cats. Which of course, we do…), we’ll spend it eating, drinking, watching old Christmas films and playing boardgames.
We’ll do our obligatory family visits on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, which will allow us to spend the day lounging about in our jammies!

There’s still so much to do between now and then, decorating the house, writing out cards, going on a food & booze run and of course buying presents!
This year me and J are cutting back on what we spend on each other, we’ve had a busy and expensive year, so it makes sense just get each other something small (and within budget!). To be honest, the main focus for us is FOOD, we both LOVE a Christmas dinner (who doesn’t?!) and this year we will be going all out with all the meat, veg and pigs and blankets that you can eat! I better do a Joey from Friends and invest (or borrow) a pair of maternity leggings so that I am at my most comfortable when stuffing my face!

I’m hoping to try and persuade J to pop the Christmas tree up in the next few days. I need to invest in some more decorating also, however I have some fantastic crocheted Christmas lights coming my way, handmade by my friend Heather! I cannot wait for the house to feel Christmasy, I might even pop a playlist on the Sonos…

Anyway, I hope everyone is getting into the spirit of things and takes full advantage of all the Christmas themed fun wherever you are and if you’re not a fan, that’s cool, but we can’t be friends. 😜

Round Up.

Hey you guys! It’s been a while… I seem to have been bitten by the blogging bug and thought that would start off with a little round up post.
In the past few months there have been some ups and some downs, but thankfully everything is good at the moment!

The biggest thing that has happened is that we lost our little Mossy Moo, our youngest cat was tragically hit by a car and died on the 8th of May. It has been a horrible time, it hit us really bad and our oldest cat Senna stopped eating and was trying to find Moss (that was heartbreaking to watch). Sen has thankfully gotten better and both myself and Jaimie have gotten through the worst of it, but still think about him and miss him everyday.
image

On a lighter note, I’m currently being up skilled at work and will be duel skilled by July! There has and is still a lot to take in, but it’s been nice to be off the phones!

There’s a lot of stuff coming up, such as a gig, stag do, hen do and 3 more weddings and I’m trying to get back on the healthy wagon (although I doubt the tub of Ben & Jerry’s that was consumed over 2 days will help!).

Finally, it feels like summer! With the better weather it means that more time will be spent outside and I intend to start walking home from work (let’s see how long that lasts!).

(I’m going to keep this up, I’m going to kee….).

4 Days, 4 Hairstyles.

image image image image I normally have my hair down and straight or shoved up in a messy bun… However, in the last 4 days I gave myself a challenge, to have a different hairstyle everyday. I was getting bored of the norm and thought it would be a nice change, my next challenge is to master the fishtail braid! I’m also trying to change my make up routine, there will most likely be some beauty posts in the coming weeks!

Changing Rooms.

We (myself & J) are in the process of decorating our bedroom. We were quite ambitious when we said to our friends and family that it would only take us a week to do, not realising everything involved… Stripping the walls (Inc. ceiling), washing them down with sugar soap and that is as far as we have gotten(!) and there is still so much to do!
However, my Dad said the he would help remove the radiator, line the walls and any other DIY that we needed, although I have a feeling he will just delegate tasks!
The idea is to have the room finished by the time I start my new job (which is in less than a week), once our room is complete we are looking to make a start on the spare rooms and the ‘Man Cave/Blogging Den’. Ideally we would like the whole house decorated by the end of next year, but with a 35 year mortgage, I think we have enough time…
image

At present we are sleeping in the spare room and in a double bed, with 2 cats… A double bed is fine, if your on your own and have no pets that feel the need to stretch out and take up most of the space, so you can imagine that we are desperate to get our room finished.
We STILL haven’t decided which wallpaper to go with or what colour of paint to paint the walls, but I have decided that I would like 2 feature walls instead of the one.
I’m thinking, either the red or the gold as they are warm tones, I like the blue and the white, but I think they would make the bedroom appear cold.

If anyone has any input as to which wallpaper they prefer, speak now! I would really appreciate your feedback.
