Nailz For Dayz.

If you follow my Instagram (@LadyKaKa86 🖑) and on here you will see that I am a lover of fake nails/nail art and recently I’ve taken to wearing fake nails ALL THE DAMN TIME, some I’ve purchased from eBay which I paint and decorate and others have been purchased from no other than Primark. I have to say I’m really impressed with the Primark nails as they only cost between £1-£2 at that price you would think they would be flimsy and/or would not last long, however I’ve been known to wear a set for up to two weeks (!).

Now I know those you who are not into the fake nail look may class them as tacky and unpractical and you would be right, but I LOVE them and no amount of ‘how can you type with those’, ‘they are so long’, ‘I don’t like them’ will ever stop me wearing them.

I used to be into the acrylic and gels nails, but I found them to be a pain and it was a long arduous process to remove them and now a with a quick dip in nail polish remover my ‘stick on nails’ are off. I always try to have break from wearing them, whether it be for a few days or a week, during that time I make sure I get my natural nails in peak condition by buffing, applying cuticle oil and nail hardener (only for me to ruin them again I hear you cry!). I’ve seen the damage that gel and acrylic nails can do and I actually like my natural nails enough not to put them through that.

So below are some pictures of the aforementioned eBay and Primark nails and If you’re looking to wear them for one night or one week you should definitely invest in a set of fake nails, they are a hell of a lot cheaper than acrylic and gels!

I’m currently sporting the below eBay nails (which showcases a lovely fingerprint smudge).

Grab A Cuppa.

Well hello there and thanks a lot for stopping by. Grab a cuppa and have a wee read on what has been happening in my life, spoiler alert, I lost my job and this post is mainly about that!

It’s been a good few months since I have blogged, actually more like a year(!) and this is all because I fell out of love for/with blogging, I stopped reading them and stopped typing them up. Now that I’m not working I can focus on typing up more posts of which I was planning to do last year…

So yeah, I’m unemployed. I stopped working for the woman in the black cloak in August 2016 and started working for a stockbrokers, I was so happy about my new journey (more money, not a call centre etc…) and I was determined to make this my new career and I had big plans of upskilling and even looking to move around the company, sadly come the beginning of March this year these ‘grand plans’ were shattered.

We had a company meeting at 11am on March 2nd to be informed that our jobs were at risk of redundancy, which basically meant that we were out of a job. I’ve never been made redundant before I was in complete shock, in fact the whole floor was in a state of shock, anger and upset, we all walked out once we had received the news and headed to the bar to drown our sorrows and process the information, after a couple of hours we headed back to the office we had our 1-2-1 meeting with our managers who provided us with a bit more information on the situation. A week or so after the announcement we were informed that only a handful of people were keeping their jobs and the rest of us would be out by April 28th, within that time I have applied for jobs and had a couple of interviews, both of which I didn’t get (obvs). I’m now about to begin my 3rd month of unemployment and it’s driving me insane, there are only so many Jeremy Kyle shows you can watch and so many times you can clean the house within a week… I’m currently signing on which means ‘some’ money is coming, but not enough to pay the mortgage. It’s horrible being in this position and I wish this on no one, making cutbacks and putting any plans for a holiday on hold, in fact we are putting our wedding plans on hold and it may be another year or so before we can even think about booking it. But I am hopeful something will come along soon and this ‘bump in the road’ can end, I could just take a job in a shop or do Festival work but neither of these are jobs are where I intend to take my career and I would very much like to get back into the financial sector (but let’s be honest I’ll have to take any job if I don’t secure something in the next couple of weeks).

I haven’t been utilising my ‘time off’ as much I should have been, I have obviously been applying for jobs and I’ve gone on a few walks, but I mainly spend my time in the house cleaning, doing wash loads, exercising and watching box sets. I could of/should be volunteering to at least get me out of the out house and feel like I have purpose, I am not cut out for the life of a housewife, I get bored. It really does knock for six when you are in a job (which you enjoy) and it be taken away from you, you go through a grieving process and it took me weeks if not a month or so to get my head around it. I am also shocked by the only 2 benefits which I can receive which are JSA and a reduction on council tax, I don’t find that to be very fair considering I have been paying my NI and taxes for years, yet because I own my home and live with a partner who works ‘they’ assume that we can afford all our outgoings. However if I was single and living on my own I would be given every kind of benefit and I can assure you that £147 a fortnight does nothing but help pay for my personal bills, of which I have many…

Anyway, enough of me ranting, I’ve a house to clean… But if anyone knows of a job vacancy in the Edinburgh area, which is not a job in a call centre, please let me know!

December 1st.

Is finally upon us, which means it’s only 24 days until CHRISTMAS!
I’m super excited, I have just eaten my very first chocolate from the advent calendar and am about to start my Christmas card list! We’re going to have another year with just the two of us (well, 5 if you count the cats. Which of course, we do…), we’ll spend it eating, drinking, watching old Christmas films and playing boardgames.
We’ll do our obligatory family visits on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, which will allow us to spend the day lounging about in our jammies!

There’s still so much to do between now and then, decorating the house, writing out cards, going on a food & booze run and of course buying presents!
This year me and J are cutting back on what we spend on each other, we’ve had a busy and expensive year, so it makes sense just get each other something small (and within budget!). To be honest, the main focus for us is FOOD, we both LOVE a Christmas dinner (who doesn’t?!) and this year we will be going all out with all the meat, veg and pigs and blankets that you can eat! I better do a Joey from Friends and invest (or borrow) a pair of maternity leggings so that I am at my most comfortable when stuffing my face!

I’m hoping to try and persuade J to pop the Christmas tree up in the next few days. I need to invest in some more decorating also, however I have some fantastic crocheted Christmas lights coming my way, handmade by my friend Heather! I cannot wait for the house to feel Christmasy, I might even pop a playlist on the Sonos…

Anyway, I hope everyone is getting into the spirit of things and takes full advantage of all the Christmas themed fun wherever you are and if you’re not a fan, that’s cool, but we can’t be friends. 😜

I Don’t Vant To Be A Vampire.

That time of year is nearly upon us (Halloween) and yes it is time to start thinking about your costume and I have found the perfect one which is now out of stock on the Matalan website. First world problems at its best!

Just look at it! I could be a stylish Mummy sipping on blood themed cocktails, but no. Not unless they have my size in store or have my size restocked online, then I will have to resort the afore mentioned Vampire or a Zombie, my two ‘go to’ Halloween costumes.

halloween-mummy-dress-fancy-dress-costume2 It’s only £15!!!

Now, Zombies and Vampires are easy, wear an old/nice outfit and apply blood to said outfit or if you do not intend to ruin your best threads, apply blood over the face, neck and exposed body parts, always a winner… But not everyone wants to attend a party where the majority of guests have had the same idea as you (Yes, I know, the Mummy costume isn’t exactly thinking outside the box, but it is something different for me).

I have been scouring the internet to find a costume that is cheap (but not cheap looking), not a Zombie or Vampire and also something that doesn’t have the word ‘sexy’ in front of it. These are just some of the little beauties that I came across…

*The below costumes are going in the ‘No’ pile.

Examples –

sexy-womens-scottish-costume

Sexy Scottish Girl

Sexy ‘Jackie’ Sparrow

OR

ladies-sexy-orange-mm-costume

Sexy Orange M&M(!)

None of these appeal to me, sadly. Not even the ‘sexy’ Orange M&M… Which might come as a shocker.

Most of the Halloween costumes that are aimed at women are ‘sexy’, now if this floats your boat then go for it. I however, would rather be classy or all out bloody and gory and some of these costumes aren’t cheap, which astounds me considering there is very little fabric! I think £15 is the most that I would spend on any Halloween costume and I’m just hoping that Matalan will restock the Mummy costume soon.

Thankfully I have a few weeks to get my costume in order, whether I buy one or throw something together at the last minute I’m sure it will be good or at least it will be covered in blood and Halloween party appropriate.

4 Weddings & No Funeral.

In 2015 we (Jaimie and myself) have 4 weddings to attend. 4! One of which is a reception, one I will be a bridesmaid and the other two will be ‘all day-ers’. Now, apart from the Susans wedding where I will be a bridesmaid, I have the dilemma of deciding what I shall wear to the other 3… I have been looking at one website in particular (Asos) and have found some stunning dresses, clutches and heels, all of which I would like to purchase. I thought, what better way to make sure everything suits, than to make a board on Polyvore (check out the website, if you’re into fashion, you’ll find this so much fun!). Here are a few of the outfits that I am loving and desperately want to purchase.

Wedding Outfit 1.

Dress – £115

Heels – £29

Clutch – £18

Wedding Outfit 2.

Wedding Outfit 3.

Dress – £100

Heels – £53

Wedding Outfit 4.

Dress – £59

Heels – £53

Bag – £24

Now, I already have wardrobes full of dresses and mountains of shoes and bags, but I don’t really own anything that is wedding appropriate (though I am sure Jaimie would beg to differ!). All of the these outfits are over £100, but by the time I start look to buy my outfits then they should HOPEFULLY be in the sale… (wishful thinking!), because as most people know, weddings are not cheap and for me to spend that amount on an outfit would be crazy…

Beauty Buys.

Recently, I have been spending some of my hard earned cash on haircare and beauty products, all of which I have purchased from my work.
Now, I am all for beauty on a budget and when these products arrived I couldn’t resist (I also get 10% off everything which makes it even better!).
My most recent buys have been –

OSIRIS AVISÈ – COLD CREAM, Cleansing Cream
image

Argan Oil – Heat Defence Leave in Spray
image

Argan Oil – Hair Treatment
image

Argan Oil – Shampoo & Conditioner
image

image

OSIRIS AVISÈ – CC Cream in Natural & Tanned
image

Cien – Make Up (Foundation in 1 Natural)

All of these products were under £3, which is an ABSOLUTE STEAL! The great thing is, is that because these are so cheap you don’t feel like you have burned a hole in your pocket!
As with most of the things my store sells, these little beauties will not be around for long and once they’re gone, they’re gone!
I will say that all these products work a treat for me, however everyones skin is different and these may not work for other folks, so do check the ingredients to make sure that they will work for you.

I’m In With The In Crowd.

I gave in and succumbed, I am now the proud owner of UGG boots.

I have always had a pair of Fuggs, fake uggs if you will. You know, the ones from high street which don’t keep your feet warm and if there is even the SLIGHTEST bit of water make you slip and slide about the like you are competing in the ice skating section of the winter Olympics!

This was not a decision taken lightly as they cost A LOT and I would see these as an investment rather than a fashion statement. For I shall (and will try not to) wear these with ‘cottons’ and a Jack Wills jumper, I AM NOT A STUDENT or a teenager.

I knew the pair that I wanted, my eyes had been set on a pair of ‘Baileys’ in chestnut with triple buttons, I searched the internet for a good deal, some where £240 and the pair that I found were £219 from http://www.spartoo.co.uk, free delivery which is a bonus but I had to wait 6 days before I received the beauties. Now I am not a patient person so 6 days on a pair of boots I just paid £219 for was not the greatest, but nonetheless they arrived and I am happy.

These boots are for the winter, I have my winter boot selection which consist of biker boots, ankle boots, Hunter wellies, snow boots and now my UGG’s. I also have my winter wardrobe and coats, but I shall leave that for another post.

Now I will leave you with a couple of pictures of my ‘Neeeeeew shooooooes!’
